12. Dog sledge ride in the polar night
January 15th - April 1st
 
Dog sledge tour while watching the northern lights flame across the sky. Listen to the dogs breathing, hear the snow creak and feel completely at peace on the dog sledge ride through the polar night, while watching the most fantastic view of northern lights flaming across the sky.

13. Dog sledge tour with visit in a settlement
1st day
On arrival in Uummannaq you will be fetched by car at the heliport. After checking in at Hotel Uummannaq, we will have a briefing on the Uummannaq district.
 
2nd day
In the morning, we tour the town. You will have the opportunity of supplementing your equipment and in the afternoon we will take a walk to some of the closest icebergs, to adjust to the cold climate. The evening is at your disposal.
 
3rd day
We start at 10.30 to the settlement of Saattut. We bring coffe, tee and a good lunchpacket on the tour. We will stop close to a longline fisherman to experience how he works. We will be back in Uummannaq after approx. a 7 hours dogsledge tour. products.
 
4th day
The day is at your free disposal. We recommend a visit in Uummannaq Museum and a hike to Santa Claus House, situated at the foot of the impressive Uummannaq Mountain.
 
5th day
We start at 10.00 a dogsledge ride to the settlement of Qaarsut, a distance of 25 km. Qaarsut is a small and productive settlement (pop. 247) with a small leather/fur sewing-workshop which we will visit, where we will have the opportunity to see how leather/fur products are being made and we also have the opportunity to buy products such as: Purses, kamiks (sealskin boots), gloves and anoraks.
 
6th day
Departure.
 
Price: Double room incl. full board - per pers. EUR 1,425/DKK 10,500. Single room supplement: EUR 125/DKK 875. No single rooms available in the settlements. Minimum 5 persons and maximum 10 persons.
 
14. 4 days Dog sledge tour to a settlement
1st day
On arrival in Uummannaq you will be fetched by car at the heliport. After checking in at Hotel Uummannaq, we will have a briefing on the Uummannaq district.
 
2nd day
In the morning, we tour the town. You will have the opportunity of supplementing your equipment and in the afternoon we will take a walk to some of the closest icebergs, to adjust to the cold climate. The evening is at your disposal.
 
3rd day
We start at 10.30 to the settlement of Saattut, where we shall experience the everyday life of a settlement. We will stay overnight in a little hut, helping with the preparation of the food. All the food is naturally made of local products.
 
4th day
Today, we will go out on the ice with a local fisherman. We will help him take up his "longline", and watch how he catches fish in the most extraordinary and very special North Greenlandic way.
 
5th day
In the morning we will sledge around the "Big Island" passing the impressive mountains, the hunter's huts and their fishing sites. Returning late afternoon, you might like to take a very welcome hot bath and then enjoy a tasty dinner!
 
6th day
Departure.
 
Price: Double room incl. full board - per pers. EUR 1,550/DKK 11,500. Single room supplement: EUR 90/DKK 675. No single rooms available in the settlements. Minimum 5 persons and maximum 10 persons.
 
15. Combination excursion to the ice-edge and to the settlements
1st day
On arrival in Uummannaq you will be fetched by a car at the heliport. After checking in at the hotel we will have a briefing on the district of Uummannaq. There might be time enough for a city tour.
 
2nd day
We start at 10.00 to the settlement of Qaarsut, a distance of 25 km. We will eat our lunch here. Qaarsut is a small and productive settlement (pop. 247) with a small leather/fur sewing-workshop which we will visit, where we will have the opportunity to see how leather/fur products are being made and we also have the opportunity to buy products such as: Purses, kamiks (sealskin boots), gloves and anoraks.
We leave the settlement at 13.30 for Niaqornat. The trip will take app. 4 - 5 hours and the distance is 45 km.
Niaqornat is a small settlement (pop. 82) with many traditional hunters. We will eat and sleep with some of the local hunter/trapper families.
 
3rd day
The day is yours to do with what you will, and enjoy the settlement. You can take part in the everyday life of the village - join the bingo at the local assembly hall or walk around to observe typical scenes of Greenlandic hunting-life. We will eat and sleep with some of the local hunter/trapper families.
 
4th day
Breakfast with the host families. We continue the trip towards the ice-edge, if there is one at this time of the year. We will take part in uuttoq-hunting - an ancient Greenlandic method of seal hunting. The hunter crawls on his knees or on his stomach behind a small white cloth. This way (with a lot of patience) he can get close to the seal!
We will do some ice fishing and help each other preparing the day's catch for supper. We sleep overnight on the sledges, or in tents on the ice.
 
5th day
We continue towards the settlement of Niaqornat right after breakfast. We eat lunch with the host hunter families. We will take part in a local sports event - playing football on the ice against the local Greenlanders followed by a visit to the former settlement, just behind the hill later on in the afternoon. 6th day
The journey to Uummannaq continues after breakfast. By the time you arrive at the hotel, a nice hot bath and a good lunch will be waiting for you. The rest of the day is yours to relax.
 
7th day
Transfer from Hotel Uummannaq to the heliport.

16. World class shark fishing
Go shark fishing in Uummannaq fjord. The sharks in the waters off Uummannaq are the largest in Greenland, with a weight between 2-400 kilos and up to 600kg and 6.5 meters in length.
We will go to one of the best shark spots in the fjord by dog sledge or snowmobile, to catch a glimpse of the Greenland shark through holes in the ice. Tours can be arranged between February and May. From 6 March - 12 March 2003 anglers from all over the world will compete for a record shark catch, during the "Greenland Shark Challenge."
 
Duration: approx. 8 hours.
